Mortal Shell II Resolve and Sidearms Explained

How Resolve works in Mortal Shell II: build the resource with attacks and effigies, spend it on Sidearms and Shell abilities.

Resolve and Sidearms in Mortal Shell II

Sidearms are the sequel’s ranged offensive tools — and they run on a resource called Resolve.

What is Resolve?

Resolve is a resource tied to the Harbinger’s stats. It is generated by:

  • Attacking enemies with your primary weapon
  • Destroying glowing effigies scattered in the world

Resolve is spent on:

  • Sidearms (ranged attacks)
  • Each Shell’s unique ability

Sidearms overview

There are 8 Sidearms in the game. Unlike primary weapons, Sidearms are ranged — fired from a distance against enemies and bosses. They are:

  • Obtained through story progression or picked up in Locations
  • Usable by all Shells and the Harbinger
  • Distinct in properties and attack behavior

Confirmed example: Ballistazooka

The Ballistazooka is the first named Sidearm — heavy and unwieldy, with scholars in-game debating whether it was ever used in battle or only for executions. It reads like a slow, devastating ranged option.

Building Resolve efficiently

  • Aggressive players generate Resolve faster — attack chains feed your ranged arsenal
  • Effigy shrines are the safe, deliberate way to top up before boss fights
  • Since Shell abilities share the Resolve pool, decide per-fight: shell burst or sidearm pressure?

Sidearm categories to expect

The 8 Sidearms likely span fast pistols, heavy crossbow-style weapons, and magic-adjacent tools — the full table (with stats) will be published after launch on the Sidearms page.
